Stop Hoarding.

It’s funny how people jump so quickly to throw out foods that have past their due date, but when it comes to makeup products, they suddenly become hoarders and cling to them as if these products were irreplaceable!

Believe it or not, the effect of using makeup products past their shelf life could be a lot more damaging than eating bread that’s a day old (yuk!)

Throwing out half-used products can prove to be quite upsetting, but what would be more upsetting is the eye infection you could get from using mascara which has been nesting under a pile of even older makeup products!

So even if you were only spoiling yourself with a YSL mascara, hope to God that you will make use of it because you’ll be saying your goodbyes a lot sooner than you’d like!

Unfortunately, cosmetics aren’t required to have an expiration date on their packaging so it’s up to you  to know when you’ve opened certain products. If your memory isn’t the best you could always use expiration-date stickers to keep track but if you want to be a bit courageous and rely on your memory, here is a guideline for when you should start saying your goodbyes:

Foundation (liquids & creams),

Concealer &  powder : 2 years max Lipstick,

Lip & eye pencils: 12- 18 months max

Mascara: 3 – 6 months

Eye cream: 6 months

Face cream: 2 years

Sun screen: 2 years

Remember that these are just guidelines, use a bit of common sense if you must! You wouldn’t eat egusi soup that smells funny, so why use a cream that seems a bit odd?
